Gorgonia Azul,
2005 Watercolor & Archival Digital Print,
30"x 22"

Superimposed onto the print of a digital scan, this painting represents the gorgonia, sea fans. This fragile genus is aptly named for the three Gorgon sisters of Greek Mythology, who had snakes for hair and eyes that turned a viewer to stone. Coral position themselves perpendicular to currents, thereby capturing food sources flowing through their open netlike structure.
